Nine White Banners

More photos of 13 year old apprentice eagle hunters, Irka Bolen and Bahak Birgen, by Asher Svidensky, who wanted to document the future of the tradition.

The Kazakh ethnic minority in Mongolia traditionally captures and trains wild eagles for hunting. Female eagles, which are larger, are preferred. After five or ten years of hunting, the eagle is released to live out the rest of her life and raise the next generation of hunting eagles.
